With a passion for the art of Maori weaving I hand weave in the traditional method of raranga, both adorned or simplistic, a kete for every occasion.
Tena Koe & Welcome!
Flax weaving is a treasured Maori art form which has been passed down through the generations.
I weave kete for everyday use. Flax kete are strong and durable and can be used for just about any carry-all purpose: handbags, beach bags, evening bags, shoulder bags, back pack, school bags. Kete are unisex accessory items, suitable for both male and female of any age group.
Kete can be traditional in style using dyed and natural flax to create customary patterns; or more contemporary using a combination of media, embellishment, and colors to produce an attractive fashion accessory.
My journey as a weaver began at Te Waanga O Aotearoa where I gained a Certificate in Raranga, the traditional art of Maori weaving. It is a joy for me to weave, creating beautiful, unique kete, and a privilege knowing the correct tikanga (cultural practices) associated with the processes, from the harvesting of harakeke (flax), preparing the whenu (individual blades of flax) and weaving kete.
